Britney
Going To New York For Fashion Week
New
York Metro reported that Britney Spears may be taking a six-month
break from show business and returning to her hometown of Kentwood,
Louisiana, but she won't be shunning the spotlight altogether.
The pop princess is looking to hit New York for Fashion Week,
according to her stylists Kurt and Bart. Kurt says they want
to take Spears to Matthew Williamson and Carlos Miele's shows
and are currently looking for other young designers they think
Spears will like. "She is taking a break, so that's why
she could go to the shows," Kurt tells us. "Every
time we tried before, she was too busy. . . . She'd also love
to do the Europe thing too. Hit Versace and Roberto Cavalli,
all those designers who have been so good to her." If Spears
does make it to Fashion Week, Kelly Osbourne might want to tag
along. The foulmouthed rocker offspring apparently doesn't approve
of Brit's fashion sense. During Osbourne's photo shoot for a
story about her in the current issue of YM, a tipster tells
us, Osbourne was flipping through a magazine when she stopped
at a story about Spears. Dissing each photo with a grunt or
a moan, Osbourne hissed, "She needs serious style help."

Plays Mom To Little Sister
Britney
Spears may be on a six-month hiatus, but she's keeping busy,
squiring her little sister Jamie Lynn Spears about while mother
Lynne Spears takes care of her own sister, who is recovering
from a bone marrow transplant in her battle with cancer.
"Britney has had sole responsibility for Jamie Lynn lately.
She has played the role of me (Momma), while I am in Houston
with Sandra," Lynne Spears wrote on her daughter's official
website ( britneyspears.com).
Britney Spears and her little sister recently appeared together
at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles. Then they both traveled
up to Canada where Jamie Lynn was shooting a commercial.
But it hasn't been all mothering duties for Britney. She also
spent time with college-age sister Laura Lynn Spears in Florida.
Mother Lynne says her famous child is enjoying time out of the
spotlight.
"She loves to be able to wake up when she wants and decide
what she chooses to do each day," the website entry said.
"There's no hair and makeup to sit through. Instead of
catering, she has home cooking. Fame and fortune hasn't blemished
Britney. She still enjoys the same simple pleasures with the
same family and friends."
However Lynne Spears acknowledges her daughter is not a girl,
yet not a woman, and not that innocent either. "Britney
no longer sees the world through rose-colored glasses. She's
had too many glimpses of the vices of humanity, mostly in the
press."

Kentwood
Welcomes Britney Back
Britney Spears will have more luck cow tipping than club hopping
on her first extended vacation in four years - at her mother's
house in Kentwood, La., where the pop tart plans to spend
the next six months.
A far cry from New York or Los Angeles, Kentwood has no hotels
or motels, but it does boast 10 churches, an indoor rodeo
arena and a motocross course.
The biggest event is the town's annual Dairy Festival in November,
drawing most of the 2,650 residents.
"We're extremely happy she's come back," says Mitch
Hembre, a manager at the Applebee's in nearby Hammond, where
Britney likes to eat sirloin at a table under a photo of herself.
"She'll probably stop by pretty soon.
"She tries to be anonymous, but it never works that way,"
he adds.
Britney - who recently announced she was taking a half-year
break from show business - is clearly the most exciting thing
that's ever happened in these parts.
At the Kentwood Historical Center, three out of four rooms
are dedicated to Britney memorabilia.
There's even a re-creation of her childhood bedroom, built
by her father, with her dolls and frilly bed linens. (The
other room houses WWII uniforms and photos.)
Callahan's Furniture has a sign that brags, "Home of
Britney Spears," and the Spring Creek Crossroads grocery
and gas joint has a huge poster of her on the wall.
Britney was spotted Sunday in Vancouver, B.C., visiting her
little sister Jamie Lynn, who's filming a TV commercial there.
But the staff at Nyla's Burger Basket in neighboring Osyka,
Miss., is positively giddy about the singer's return - whenever
the mega-star happens to turn up in her Mercedes convertible.
When asked whether the staff was eager to see Britney, waitress
and cook Becky Millien declared, "Yes, Ma'am!"
"Everyone's excited," trilled another waitress during
the lunch rush.
The singer likes Nyla's mustard greens, cheese fries and chocolate
pie so much, she was inspired to open her own restaurant Nyla
in Manhattan. (Unlike the original, New York's lacks a tanning
salon.)
Let's hope - for the exposed navel fad she started - she brought
her trainer home with her.
She could also get plenty of exercise at Kinchen's 1.8-acre
indoor rodeo facility, where barrel racing, team roping and
bull bashes are all the rage. (Watch out for a cowgirl fashion
frenzy!)
If she really wants to shed her celebrity skin, Britney could
stop by The Cafe to gossip with high school pals."
We're pretty respectful," said Cathy Chapman, editor
of the Kentwood News Ledger.
"When she's home, she's given her privacy. We don't see
much of her. That may change now. She may get out and around."
That is, if she's not hiding out at the 7.5-acre estate on
a hill she built for her family - called "Serenity"-
where she's likely to read scripts, according to her publicist,
Lisa Kasteler, and sip Pepsi from her personal vending machine.
Kasteler denied that Britney was having a Mariah Carey-like
meltdown from recent disappointments, including her breakup
with Justin Timberlake and her parents' divorce. Star Magazine
also reports that Britney was furious that Pepsi signed her
rival, Shakira.
"She is going to travel, write music and hang out with
family and friends, whom she hasn't been able to spend any
real time with for a long time," Kasteler told Reuters.
Nobody's more excited than Britney's mom, Lynne Spears.
"Britney's six-month vacation is here! Yay!" Mama
Spears wrote on her Web site. "She loves to be able to
wake up when she wants and decide what she chooses to do each
day. There's no hair and make-up to sit through. Instead of
catering, she has home cooking.
"Fame and fortune hasn't blemished Britney. She still
enjoys the same simple pleasures with the same family and
friends."

Britney
Appears on 'Puppy Love' Album
For
a while, Britney was being criticized by animal activists for
the conditions the animals faced during her video shoot for
'Boys'. Now Britney is showing everyone, that it's all rumors
and she really does care about animals.
The S.P.C.A. (The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
and Zomba Records worked together to create an album called
'Puppy Love' for all animal lovers. $1 from the sale of each
album will go to the S.P.C.A., who receives 1,000's of unwanted
abused dogs every month.
Britney's 'Not a Girl' track will appear on the album. The album
is available to buy in music stores on August 20th.

Justin trying to Out Do
Britney?
The
NSYNC singer has splashed out $8million on a palatial villa
just down the road from the love-nest that he bought with
Britney for less than half the price. Justin's new pad in
the Hollywood Hills features a theatre, gym, guest house,
tennis court, five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It also has
a cobblestone courtyard and covered parking for only three
vehicles. But Justin has at least nine cars - including a
Dodge Viper and a Porsche - as well as five motorcycles. The
21-year-old singer from Tennessee, USA, also owns a three-bedroom
home in Florida. A pal of Justin's said: "He's got the
money so why the hell not?"

Spears Is Feeling Fine
Britney
Spears is tired of people constantly asking her if she's okay
following her split from Justin Timberlake.
She says, "You go to a club and people say, 'Are you fine?
Are you fine?' And it's like, 'I'm here, aren't I?' What if
I was some weakling and I was like, 'Whaaa! Crying!"
The 20-year-old star denies that she's been floored by the end
of her relationship with the 'N Sync singer, and says she's
learning to cope with hearing tales of his encounters with other
women.
She says, "It wasn't a bad break-up. Of course it's gonna
hurt sometimes, and you wonder things. But you learn from it
and grow. I'm trying to get to that point."

Britney On
The Lycos Top 50: Year 3
This
week the Lycos 50 has turned 3 years old, and Britney has been
with it since the beginning. For 156 weeks now, the Lycos 50
has counted down the top 50 searches on the web for every week,
and Britney has been with it from day 1. That just shows you
the star power that she still has. Only two other people have
done this, Jennifer Lopez and Pamela Anderson, but Britney has
consistently been ranked higher every week. So let's keep searching
and keep Britney up there. Oh, and she held the #4 spot for
the week ending 8/10/02.

Time out for Britney
BBC: Britney Spears is to take a break from the music business
following her recent world tour. A spokeswoman for her record
company, Jive, told the BBC: "She has been touring nonstop
and she understandably needs to take a break. Then she begins
work on her next film, about the world of NASCAR racing. So
she'll be away from music for a while, but she'll be back."
Earlier rumors that she intends to spend at least two years
away from the spotlight due to exhaustion have been denied.

"Rest and Relaxation"
Lynn's Corners
Britney's six month vacation is here! Yay! She loves to be able
to wake up when she wants and decide what she chooses to do
each day. There's no hair and make-up to sit through. Instead
of catering, she has home cooking. Fame and fortune hasn't blemished
Britney. She still enjoys the same simple pleasures with the
same family and friends. However, Britney no longer sees the
world through rose-colored glasses. She's had too many glimpses
of the vices of humanity, mostly in the press. We wonder what
they will come up with next!
Laura Lynn has been on college break, so she and Britney are
making up for lost time together. The two have done the "girl
thing" in Los Angeles and have sunbathed in Florida. I'm
sure NYC is next on their list! There is so much laughter in
the house when all the girls get together.
Jamie Lynn and Britney have left Nickelodeon studios for Canada,
where Jamie Lynn is shooting a commercial. Meanwhile, Bryan
is doing some work in Seattle. Everyone is scattered, once again!
Britney has had sole responsibility for Jamie Lynn lately. She
has played the role of me (Momma), while I am in Houston with
Sandra. Sandra has finished the bone marrow transplant successfully.
So far, watching my sister struggle through this difficult ordeal
reminds me of what is most important in life. Sandra's strength
and wisdom lets me see how precious life and loved ones are.
Anyone that knows Sandra loves her. She will win this battle!
